75 Years of
Bank Independent History

Bank Independent was started 75 years ago to serve the Leighton community. See below on how we now serve more than just one community.

Follow the Name
The Bank of Leighton is founded by a group of farmers and local business and community leaders with capital of $25,000.
Our Sheffield office is opened, and the Bank is renamed First Colbert Bank.
First Colbert moves from a state to a national-charter and moves our headquarters to Sheffield, becoming First Colbert National Bank.
First Colbert Chairman Edward F. Mauldin leads a group of investors, including many First Colbert shareholders, to charter The Bank of Florence, operating out of our Pine Street location, while First Colbert continues to expand in Colbert County.
First Colbert becomes the largest independent bank in Colbert County with 26% of the $130 million commercial bank deposits in the market.
First Colbert and The Bank of Florence merge to form Bank Independent following a change in regulation allowing banks to operate in contiguous counties.
